WAFU-B: CAF annuls Edo Queens penalty shootout win, orders final to resume

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has voided Edo Queens' 4-1 penalty-shootout win over Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the WAFU Zone B final of the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League. The governing body has mandated the match to restart from the beginning of extra time, following a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes, according to a ruling shared with JoySports.

The decision came after Ghana Football Association (GFA) filed a formal protest on behalf of Ampem Darkoa Ladies against CAF and the WAFU Zone B committee, citing violation of the competition's regulations. The protest was lodged within 48 hours of the match, and a detailed petition was submitted by the GFA on September 9. The Ghanaian champions contended that proceeding directly to penalties from a 2-2 draw breached Articles 13.1 and 72.4 of the CAF Women's Champions League Regulations, which stipulate that extra time must be played before penalties can be utilized to determine the winner.

CAF's ruling stems from the fact that the omission of extra time was not caused by either club but rather due to an administrative error and non-compliance with the competition rules by the match officials.
