Unification minister to visit Ireland, Northern Ireland, Germany from this week

Minister Chung Dong-young, the Unification Minister of South Korea, is set to embark on a journey to Northern Ireland, Ireland, and Germany beginning this week. The primary objective of this visit is to elucidate South Korea's stance on maintaining peaceful coexistence with North Korea. The eight-day trip, as announced by the ministry on Monday, is aimed at observing how each country progressed beyond divisive pasts and garnering backing for Seoul's approach towards North Korea policy.

His itinerary commences in Northern Ireland, a country that has undergone a considerable journey to overcome decades of conflict. During this leg of his tour, he will engage with key officials involved in the country's peace process. Discussions will revolve around how South Korea managed its own long-standing divisions and how this can possibly benefit Northern Ireland.

After that, he will travel to Ireland, where he will connect with experts in international conflict resolution. He will also delve into Ireland's struggle for independence and the subsequent resolution of conflict with Northern Ireland.

In Ireland, Chung is scheduled to deliver a special lecture on peaceful coexistence with North Korea. The lecture is at Trinity College Dublin and is sponsored by the Society for International Affairs (SOFIA), a student organization at the university with a keen interest in international affairs.
