Unification minister to visit Ireland, Northern Ireland, Germany from this week

Unification Minister Chung Dong-young will embark on a visit to Northern Ireland, Ireland, and Germany from this week, as per the South Korean Ministry of Unification. The minister aims to elucidate South Korea's perspective on peacefully coexisting with North Korea during his eight-day European tour, as reported by the ministry on Monday.

His journey begins in Northern Ireland, where he will engage with officials who played pivotal roles in the nation's peace process, and discuss their strategies for overcoming decades of conflict. His itinerary then takes him to Ireland, where he will meet with experts in international conflict resolution, and learn about the country's protracted struggle for independence and the eventual resolution of its own strife.

During his stay in Ireland, Chung is set to deliver a lecture at Trinity College Dublin, invited by the Society for International Affairs (SOFIA), a student organization with a keen interest in international politics and relations. His final destination is Bremen, Germany, where he will represent South Korea at the German Unity Day ceremony, commemorating the 36th anniversary of Germany's unification.

Prior to this event, Chung plans to meet with Bremen Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte to advocate for German backing and involvement in the peace-building efforts on the Korean Peninsula.
