Thunderstorm warning in effect for Pahang, Sarawak and Sabah until 5pm

KUALA LUMPUR, September 28 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for sections of Pahang, Sarawak, and Sabah regions. Intense rainfall, powerful gusts of wind, and lightning are expected to continue until 5pm today. In Peninsular Malaysia, the alert covers three districts in Pahang: Cameron Highlands, Raub, and Bentong.

In Sarawak, the warning applies to Bintulu and Sebauh in Bintulu division, Miri and Limbang division. Sabah's warning zone is broader, including Tawau, Tongod, Telupid, Kinabatangan, Sandakan, Sook, Keningau, Tambunan, Membakut, Pensiangan in Sandakan division, Interior division, and West Coast division, Kudat area. A thunderstorm warning is issued when atmospheric conditions indicate potential storms with rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour or lasting over an hour.

These warnings are short-term advisories, active for up to six hours post-issuance. The public is advised to remain alert, avoid open spaces, stay away from tall trees and unstable structures, and prepare for possible flash floods, particularly in low-lying areas and near slopes. Drivers are warned to be extra careful on roads due to diminished visibility and slippery roads during heavy rains.
