Thunderstorm warning in effect for Pahang, Sarawak and Sabah until 5pm

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has warned of potential thunderstorms across specific regions in Pahang, Sarawak, and Sabah. Heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning are anticipated to last until 5pm. Peninsular Malaysia is expected to experience adverse weather in three districts: Cameron Highlands, Raub, and Bentong.

In Sarawak, the alert includes Bintulu and Sebauh, Miri, and Limbang. Sabah's warning covers Tawau, Sandakan, the Interior division, and the West Coast division. MetMalaysia explained that a thunderstorm warning is issued when atmospheric conditions forecast storms with rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour or precipitation lasting over an hour.

These alerts are short-term, valid for up to six hours from issuance. Residents are urged to remain alert, avoid open fields and large trees, and prepare for possible flash floods, particularly in low-lying areas and near slopes. Drivers are advised to drive with caution due to reduced visibility and slippery roads from heavy rains.
