SpaceX Starship makes orbit, deploys first payload

SpaceX's Starship rocket successfully reached orbit on its first flight, despite an unexpected engine shutdown mid-flight. The 40-story-tall vehicle, consisting of a Super Heavy booster and the upper-stage Starship, was launched from SpaceX's Starbase complex near Brownsville on the Gulf of Mexico. The mission, originally planned for 10 hours, was truncated to three hours due to the engine problem.

Starship's main engine shut down prematurely, but engineers confirmed that the craft could still attempt an orbit-bypassing engine firing, which it successfully executed. Once in orbit, Starship deployed 26 new Starlink satellites, each operating nominally. Elon Musk, the company's CEO, tweeted that all 26 Starlink V3 operational satellites were deployed and functioning correctly.

Starship's successful orbit debut is a significant milestone, as it represents the first time the rocket has reached its primary benchmark of delivering payloads into space. The successful deployment of Starlink satellites is expected to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for SpaceX's Starlink unit, highlighting the importance of Starship to the company's profitability.
