Sifuna given free hand to choose party for 2027 race

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has declared Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the final arbiter in determining the political party that will support his allies in the 2027 General Election. After evaluating various party options, the group ultimately decided to grant Sifuna the authority to choose the vehicle through which they will pursue their ambitions.

Sifuna was endorsed as the presidential candidate of the Linda Mwananchi movement, and the leadership retreat on September 26 confirmed his role as both the party leader and presidential flag bearer. The group's leaders believe that entrusting the decision to Sifuna demonstrates their confidence in him and will encourage his allies to rally behind his choice.

The decision leaves the question of the political vehicle directly in Sifuna's hands, as the movement moves towards formalising its structure and seeking cooperation with other parties ahead of the 2027 election.
