#SHOWBIZ: Lisa makes VMA history as first K-pop soloist to win Best Pop

In a historic first, K-pop sensation Lisa claimed the Best Pop award at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Lisa, a member of the globally renowned group BlackPink, received the prestigious Moon Person for her hit single "Dream," which features Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi. The singer's emotional acceptance speech expressed her gratitude to MTV and her fans, known as "Lilies," for their support and inspiration.

Lisa's victory stood out among a crowded field of competitors, including global pop icons Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, and Charli XCX. Lisa's winning track is part of her debut studio album "Alter Ego," released in February 2025, which includes collaborations with artists such as Tyla and Megan Thee Stallion. This win adds to Lisa's impressive VMA record, which includes previous Best K-pop victories for solo tracks "Lalisa" and "Rockstar," as well as her 2025 collaboration with Doja Cat and Raye titled "Born Again."

The night also honored other music industry legends, with Madonna winning awards for Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Cinematography, and Best Choreography. Taylor Swift secured major honors, including Video of the Year for "The Fate of Ophelia" and the inaugural Artist Director Honour, bringing her career total to 33 VMAs and solidifying her status as the most-awarded artist in VMA history.
