Russia hits Ukraine's largest mobile provider, strikes data centres

On Monday, 28 September, Russia launched an attack on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine situated in central Kyiv. Those within the building hurriedly climbed onto windows in an attempt to escape being burned alive. Since the commencement of the full-scale invasion, Russia has inflicted damage on over 4,650 educational establishments in Ukraine, with 423 completely destroyed.

The NAS of Ukraine was established on 27 November 1918, with Volodymyr Vernadsky as its inaugural president. As of 1 January 2026, the institution employed 23,982 individuals, comprising of 13,003 researchers, including 2,332 holders of doctorate degrees and 6,435 candidates of science. According to the Telegram channel Lachen Writes, the strike resulted in casualties and injuries.

Serhii Sternenko, a military volunteer who has contributed 291,502 FPV drones and aided the Ukrainian military in shooting down over 12,954 aerial targets, expressed his dismay, stating that the world remains indifferent. Amidst the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a rescue operation is in progress to locate any individuals who may have been inside the building, emphasizing that Russia will face consequences for this act of terror.
