Prabowo Proposes 52:48 Formula for 2027 Hajj Costs

President Prabowo Subianto proposed a 52:48 ratio between Hajj travel costs (Bipih) paid by pilgrims and subsidies drawn from Hajj fund investment yields for the 2027 Hajj Pilgrimage Cost (BPIH) scheme, aiming to prevent financial hardship for travelers. According to Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, this ratio would ensure the scheme remains affordable for pilgrims.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah submitted its BPIH calculation results to Prabowo, along with a report from Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR). Irfan explained that recent shifts in Middle Eastern geopolitics have impacted the Hajj economy, necessitating adjustments to various cost components. While some figures needed to change, the President believed the proposed ratio would not be overly burdensome for pilgrims, he added.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah will work on a suitable formula for the 2027 BPIH, including reevaluating the balance between direct payments from pilgrims and returns from managed Hajj funds. Irfan also reported that the President commended the ministry's efforts to combat cartels and fraudulent practices within the Hajj and Umrah ecosystems. The President explicitly instructed the ministry to eliminate all cartels and mafias associated with Hajj and Umrah, Irfan stated.
