Polish Defense Minister on Russian drone strike in Ukraine 2 km from border: Polish air defense and aircraft ready for action

On Monday, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported that a Russian jet-powered drone had struck Ukrainian territory, approximately 2 kilometers from the border crossing with Poland at Dorohusk. The Polish airspace remained unviolated, he stated on the social network X.

Kosiniak-Kamysz affirmed that Poland's air defense systems and aircraft were prepared for immediate action following the incident. Upon the alert being lifted, the aircraft promptly returned to its base, and the air defense systems reverted to surveillance and standby mode.

Earlier reports from informed sources to Interfax-Ukraine indicated that a Russian attack drone strike had occurred near the border with Poland. According to these sources, the Russian strike drone impacted a location a few hundred meters from the border. However, the drone did not manage to hit the Yahodyn border crossing point directly.

In a separate incident on September 13, Russian forces allegedly struck the locomotive of the Ukrzaliznytsia passenger train in the Volyn region, situated 2 kilometers from the Polish border. This attack occurred shortly before two trains - one carrying security advisors from various EU member states and former European leaders, including former UK Prime Minister Johnson, and another carrying former CIA Director David Petraeus - arrived at the station.
