MyCC's Chief Executive, Iskandar Ismail, has announced enhanced protection and rewards for whistleblowers who expose cartel activities or unfair practices under the Competition Act 2010 (Act 712) and the Competition Commission Act 2010 (Act 713). Ismail emphasized the importance of such protection, as cartel activities often occur covertly and behind closed doors.

He stated that while protection has existed in the past, it was insufficient, and now the authority is strengthening it further by adding rewards. He cited instances where whistleblowers have come forward with information but then withdrawn due to the lack of rewards, fearing job loss or other consequences. Ismail also highlighted that the disclosure of confidential company information can put the whistleblower's job at risk, which discourages them from coming forward.

With the updated provisions taking effect this year, MyCC will be able to provide more comprehensive protection to individuals who disclose information. This move will also make it easier for the general public, especially users, to file complaints related to anti-competitive practices. MyCC will continue to advocate for users on a monthly basis.

Meanwhile, MyCC has started filing complaints against individuals or companies holding cartel-related information through various channels, including the WhatsApp application. Iskandar also mentioned that the Act 712 enables MyCC to conduct market studies related to sectors that significantly impact the public, including the digital economy and e-commerce.

Cooperation with competition authorities in other countries will further enable MyCC to gather information to ensure the domestic market is not a victim of international anti-competitive practices.
