Optimus Bank launches blood drive to support healthcare

Optimus Bank has initiated a blood drive in Lagos to address the country's pressing blood supply shortage. The event, part of the bank's corporate social responsibility platform, "Impact Starts With Us," encourages employees, stakeholders and community members to donate blood and save lives. Optimus Bank emphasizes that healthy, resilient communities are vital for a thriving economy.

In Nigeria, safe blood access is crucial for various medical emergencies, with an estimated 1.8 million to two million units required annually. However, only 371,827 units were collected in 2024. Postpartum haemorrhage contributes to about 23 to 30 percent of maternal deaths in Nigeria, highlighting the importance of a reliable blood supply.

Optimus Bank CEO Dr Ademola Odeyemi stated that "taking action today creates meaningful value for people, communities and the future." The initiative, themed "GIVE BLOOD. GIVE LIFE," aligns with the bank's commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and sustainable community impact, supporting healthcare, education, empowerment and environmental sustainability.
