Negeri Sembilan crisis: what we know so far

In April, four purported undangs announced the alleged removal of Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, although the grounds for his removal were not disclosed and required under the state constitution. The Dewan Keadilan dan Undang later revealed that three of them were not undangs at the time. Aminuddin Harun, the then menteri besar, rejected the chieftains' move and Mubarak Dohak was removed as Sungai Ujong undang for contravening customary laws.

Umno withdrew support for Aminuddin, leading to an impasse in the state government. The crisis intensified after the August 1 state election, and was later dubbed a constitutional crisis. A political ceasefire was agreed upon between Pakatan Harapan and Umno, with Aminuddin continuing to lead the state government. On June 5, the state assembly was dissolved, and a temporary injunction preserving the status quo was granted by the High Court.

Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja afar was purportedly proclaimed as the "new" Yang Dipertuan Besar by one of the undangs at a five-star hotel in Melaka. The Negeri Sembilan palace deemed this proclamation invalid and stripped Tunku Nadzaruddin of his hereditary Tunku Panglima Besar title.
