Nashik: MP Bhaskar Bhagre Seeks Trigger-1 Status For Drought-Affected Villages In Three Talukas

Nashik has seen several villages in Chandwad, Dindori and Niphad talukas struggling with drought-like conditions, due to uneven rainfall and prolonged dry spells. These challenges have been exacerbated by inadequate rainfall during crucial growth stages of crops. MP Bhaskar Bhagre has called on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to include eligible villages under Drought Trigger-1.

His letter to the Chief Minister emphasized that drought assessment should not rely solely on average rainfall for a taluka. Instead, he advocated for a village-specific evaluation, taking into account rainfall patterns, dry spells, crop health, soil water-holding capacity, and water resources availability. Bhagre noted that some areas have light and hilly soil, which makes crops especially sensitive to prolonged dry periods.

The lack of moisture during critical kharif crop growth stages has adversely affected crop development, potentially leading to lower yields. In response, Bhagre has requested an on-ground assessment of the affected villages to accurately gauge the situation. He urged Fadnavis to direct the district administration and Agriculture Department to perform an unbiased, village-wise evaluation of drought-like conditions in Chandwad, Dindori, and Niphad.

He also urged the inclusion of all eligible villages under Trigger-1, so that those found eligible receive relief measures and support under the government’s drought and natural disaster-related programs.
