Mir Raza murder case: Judicial commission proceedings adjourned as 30-day tenure ends

Proceedings of the judicial commission probing the death of Mir Raza Ali were suspended on Monday as the 30-day term concluded, pending a decision by the Sindh cabinet to extend the commission's tenure until October 15. The commission had been informed that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had approved the request for an extension, which would then be forwarded to the provincial cabinet for approval following a meeting on October 1.

If the cabinet declined to extend the commission's term, no new witnesses would be called, and the report would be submitted based on the statements recorded thus far. However, if the cabinet agreed to the extension, fresh notices would be issued to witnesses, and a questionnaire for three senior police officers would be dispatched on October 2.

Prior to Monday's adjournment, the commission had dismissed an application by Mir Raza Ali's family seeking the presence of the Karachi police chief and the head of the investigation team. The commission had already questioned inconsistencies in the post-mortem reports conducted by Dr. Osama Shaikh, the medico-legal officer who performed Ali's first autopsy.

Ali's body was exhumed and a second autopsy confirmed he had been shot in the back, ruling out suicide.
