Meta ropes in MongoDB CEO Chirantan Desai to lead new AI platform for enterprise customers

Meta has unveiled its new "Meta Enterprise Platform," an initiative designed to bring the company's AI offerings to businesses and corporate customers. To spearhead this new endeavor, Meta has appointed Chirantan "CJ" Desai, the CEO of MongoDB, a leading database software company.

The launch of Meta Enterprise Platform capitalizes on the success of Muse, Meta's personal AI assistant introduced earlier this month. Muse can assist users with tasks like composing emails and arranging travel. Meta plans to integrate its entire technology stack, encompassing Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code, and additional tools, into business applications and for developers.

Desai expressed optimism in a statement, highlighting the potential for AI to revolutionize how organizations innovate, grow, serve customers, and manage operations. He emphasized Meta's unique position to facilitate this transformation by combining advanced AI models, leading agents, and a proven track record of assisting millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses.

The strategic move from Meta could potentially yield a return on the significant investments made in AI development. However, the news of Desai's sudden departure had a notable impact on MongoDB's stock, with its shares plummeting by more than 17%. In response to the sudden resignation, MongoDB appointed Dev Ittycheria as interim CEO, who had previously held the position, pending a search for Desai's permanent replacement.
