Martha Karua's father passes on

Martha Karua, a leader of the People's Liberation Party, has announced the passing of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua. In a statement released on Sunday, September 27, 2026, the politician recounted her recent family visit to Kirinyaga, where she learnt of her father's death. While travelling back to Nairobi, Karua learned the final news of her beloved father's passing.

During the family visit, Karua and her siblings sang her father's favorite gospel hymn, unaware that it would be their last song together. Upon her return to Nairobi, the news confirmed the reality of his death. Karua expressed gratitude for the final moments spent with her father, acknowledging that there is no age at which one is truly prepared to bid farewell to someone who has been a constant presence in their life.

Karua described her father as a teacher and a principled individual who valued character, education, and integrity. He had been a constant source of support throughout her education, legal career, and public life. He believed in her long before she had achieved any significant accomplishments, and remained steadfastly supportive throughout her journey.

The politician mourned the profound loss of her father, noting that his death left a void for her children, grandchildren, and the wider family.
