Man arrested over hidden pinhole cameras in Sha Tin gym changing room

A Hong Kong man, aged 34 and surnamed Fung, has been apprehended on suspicion of installing hidden pinhole cameras in a commercial gym's changing room. The incident occurred at 24/7 Fitness Shatin, located in Lek Yuen Estate. The suspect was apprehended on Sunday following a report filed by a staff member who had noticed the cameras. The case has been classified as voyeurism, punishable by up to five years in prison and has been handed over to the Shatin District Crime Unit for further investigation.

24/7 Fitness, the gym chain, expressed gratitude for the police's swift action and confirmed that they were aware of the arrest. The company stated that they have a zero-tolerance policy for any acts that violate member privacy and apologized to affected members. Following the incident, the gym has suspended the suspect's membership and provided requested information to the police.

In response to the allegations, the gym chain has implemented new procedures and heightened checks across all branches, including the installation of equipment to inspect hidden areas such as showers, changing rooms, and restrooms. This move aims to ensure members can utilize the facilities safely and peacefully. A police brief revealed that officers received the report around 5 pm on Friday and identified three cameras upon arriving at the scene. The suspect was subsequently arrested two days later on Sunday.

Moreover, a Threads user who identified himself as a gym member posted a video of the hidden camera taped to the ceiling on Saturday. In the video, a pinhole camera with a ribbon cable can be seen taped to a removable ceiling panel using black electrical tape.
