Los letrados del Congreso plantearán la suspensión temporal de la diputada que mostró el espray de gas pimienta al considerarlo “un arma”

A legal report from Congress, accessed by EL PAÍS, suggests that the pepper spray displayed by popular deputy Ana Vázquez in the Chamber on September 23 should be considered an "arm." This opens the door for the Chamber's presidency to temporarily suspend Vázquez. The report includes security camera footage which shows Vázquez handing an object to a worker from her party, who immediately enters two bathrooms where irritating gases are detected minutes later.

As a result, roughly twenty people experienced intoxication symptoms and at least three individuals made complaints. The legal document does not specify who released the substance or prove that the item given by Vázquez to her aide was indeed the pepper spray (even though she admitted to manipulating the bottle). The popular deputy now faces the possibility of sanctions ranging from a mere reprimand to a temporary suspension with an economic fine.
