‘Let every Ga child you raise know the Ga language and story’ – Sylvester Mensah

Sylvester Adinam Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana EXIM Bank, has urged Ga traditional leaders and parents to prioritize teaching children the Ga language and their community's history. At the 10th anniversary celebration of community radio station Latenu FM, the former La Dadekotopon MP expressed worry that some children understand Ga but are reluctant to speak it, while others lack proficiency altogether.

Mensah emphasized that language is more than just a means of communication; it is a means of perception. He highlighted the value of the stories, songs, and proverbs passed down through generations, noting that they impart wisdom, identity, and pride. Mensah called upon Latenu FM to develop programs that would assist young people in learning Ga and uncovering the history of their towns, institutions, and notable local figures.

He urged the station to expand its programming to podcasts, streaming platforms, and social media to connect with younger listeners, including those residing overseas. Mensah commended Latenu FM for maintaining the Ga language on airwaves over the past decade and encouraged the station to promote the language as modern, beautiful, and relevant to younger generations.
