KNUST, GMTF explore AI partnership to transform healthcare delivery

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has begun talks with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and science-backed solutions can enhance healthcare delivery in Ghana. A delegation from KNUST, headed by Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. David Asamoah, visited GMTF to discuss the potential of this collaboration.

The discussions centered around using AI and other scientific innovations to tackle health sector challenges, boost efficiency, and enhance patient outcomes. KNUST expressed interest in partnering with GMTF to turn scientific research and technological advancements into practical solutions for the health sector. As part of the planned collaboration, KNUST seeks GMTF's backing to make some of its health facilities and centers available for a pilot project testing AI-driven solutions in healthcare delivery.

The pilot would enable the assessment of AI's ability to assist healthcare professionals, enhance service delivery, and provide data-driven insights for decision-making. GMTF and KNUST also discussed the potential deployment of AI systems to support GMTF's internal operations, such as improving efficiency, data management, and coordination of its interventions.

This engagement is part of GMTF's broader strategy to forge strategic partnerships with academic, scientific, and professional institutions to bolster specialized healthcare delivery and maximize the impact of its initiatives. The proposed KNUST-GMTF partnership aims to establish a platform linking research, technology, and healthcare practice, with the ultimate goal of developing innovative solutions that can be scaled across the health sector.
