Japan’s Nishimura goes wire-to-wire for first LPGA win

Yuna Nishimura secured her first LPGA title on Sunday at the NW Arkansas Championship, triumphing in a wire-to-wire fashion at Pinnacle Country Club, Arkansas. The 26-year-old Japanese sensation, who has six victories on her home tour, experienced her maiden top-10 finish outside pairs events following her absence from the cut in five of her last six competitions.

Nishimura amassed a five-stroke lead with consecutive 63s, ultimately closing the 54-hole event with five birdies, two bogeys, and an eagle, finishing at 21-under 192 for a five-shot victory. The formidable five-shot lead left her with little room for error, but she remained confident, stating, "I believed in myself and just kept going until the end."

Nishimura remarked that this win was a surprise after missing numerous cuts this year, saying, "It's a dream come true." She became the third first-time winner of the season and Japan's 24th LPGA victor. Iwai, Chun In-gee from South Korea, and Chanettee Wannasaen from Thailand shared second place with a score of 197. Iwai fired five consecutive birdies on her final round, expressing her intent to play aggressively, saying, "I was thinking it's going to be low every player, so I have to go more aggressive."
