Japan's Nishimura goes wire-to-wire for first LPGA win

Yuna Nishimura claimed her inaugural LPGA championship on Sunday at the NW Arkansas Championship, securing the victory wire-to-wire following a final-round five-under-par 66 at Pinnacle Country Club. The 26-year-old Japanese sensation, a six-time winner on her domestic circuit, achieved her maiden top-10 finish in events beyond pairs following her absence from the cut in five of her previous six appearances.

Nishimura demonstrated her resilience by building a five-stroke lead before closing the 54-hole event with five birdies, two bogeys, and an eagle, finishing with a score of 21-under 192 for a five-stroke triumph at Rogers, Arkansas. Describing the pressure as daunting, Nishimura attributed her success to her unwavering belief in herself and her relentless determination throughout the tournament.

This marked her as the third first-time winner of the season and the 24th Japanese player to secure an LPGA victory. Sharing the second position with a score of 197 were Japan's Aki Iwai, South Korea's Chun In-gee, and Thailand's Chanettee Wannasaen. Iwai ended the tournament at 197, achieving her highest score of the year, while expressing her intention to play more aggressively in future events.
