Iran says no talks planned with US at UN General Assembly

Iran's delegation to the UN General Assembly has announced they do not plan to engage in talks with the United States, according to state media. This comes after US President Donald Trump expressed his expectation for more negotiations. The IRNA news agency, quoting an unnamed source, confirmed that Iran's delegation in New York has no intentions of negotiating with the US.

Trump had stated on Sunday that he anticipated talks to resume soon, following his rejection of Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. Iran's stance and positions were clearly communicated to the US through a Qatari mediator, and the delegation is set to return to Tehran on Tuesday. Iran had presented seven conditions for ending the conflict and reopening the strategic waterway, which was a focal point of the ongoing conflict sparked by US-Israeli strikes in February.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20% of the world's oil and gas flows, has been a central issue since the initial attacks. Iran has been under a blockade by the US, which led to a chokehold on the waterway. The conflict has seen a slowdown in fighting, with no strikes from the US since September 1, although vessels have still been targeted in the Strait of Hormuz.
