Four killed in helicopter crash near Montreal

Four people have tragically perished following a helicopter crash near Montreal, according to Quebec’s provincial police. Emergency responders arrived in Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville, located approximately 50km from the capital city, after receiving a distress call around 14:30 local time on Saturday. Upon arrival, they discovered the aircraft engulfed in flames and determined that all occupants had perished at the scene.

The victims' identities remain unknown, though Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, a spokesperson for the police, confirmed the aircraft was a private helicopter. The Major Crime Unit of the Sûreté du Québec, along with crime scene technicians and investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, are currently leading the investigation into the incident.

The crash occurred near the Rang des Écossais road, just off Highway 10, according to Bilodeau. Emergency services managed to extinguish the fire at the crash site around 22:00 local time, but investigators continued to work at the scene as of early the following morning. The process of identifying the deceased may take several days, according to Bilodeau.
