Former British PM David Cameron says Alberta separatism vote unlike Brexit

Former British Prime Minister David Cameron asserts that the vote on Alberta's potential separation from Canada should not be compared to the Brexit referendum. Speaking at an energy leadership conference in Calgary, Cameron largely avoided discussing the Alberta separatism debate. However, he noted that the October vote is about the future of a country, rather than the UK's membership in a trade association.

Cameron led the UK during the 2016 vote to separate from the European Union and called the idea of a fragmented UK a tragedy. He also mentioned that not holding the Scottish independence referendum in 2014 could have led to resentment and worsened the situation. At the conference, Cameron expressed nervousness about the results of a referendum for the Scottish independence vote.
