Finance minister stresses policy reforms to unlock climate investment

Minister of Finance HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari participated in a seminar discussing climate finance and policy reforms. The event, part of the 2026 Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Annual Meeting in Doha, focused on scaling up climate finance and turning policy reforms into resilient growth. Minister Al Kuwari emphasized that climate finance works best when governments establish necessary policy foundations, development institutions assume risks the private sector cannot bear, and banks and bond markets link projects with long-term finance.

He also identified key challenges, such as currency risks, rising debt-service burdens, and the cost of capital. Al Kuwari stressed the importance of strengthening guarantees, risk-sharing mechanisms, and local-currency financing. He highlighted Qatar's commitment to a sustainable economy through investments in renewable energy, emissions reduction, and sustainable finance.
