Dubai Police arrest 22-member begging gang targeting motorists

Dubai police have apprehended a 22-person begging gang that had been targeting motorists on major roads. The operation was sparked by a tip-off submitted via the Dubai Police app's 'Police Eye' service. The gang allegedly stopped drivers on busy roads and asked for money, claiming they needed it to cover travel expenses. Upon receiving the tip-off, police initiated a search and investigation, eventually identifying one suspect and discovering the group's organized activities across multiple locations in Dubai.

The gang was found begging at several high-traffic areas, including Al Khor Street, Ras Al Khor, Bu Kadra Bridge area, and the Dubai-Al Ain Road bridge. They approached motorists with a false story of needing money for transportation to elicit sympathy and money from them. Following the investigation, all 22 gang members were arrested and legal proceedings were initiated against them.

Dubai Police emphasized that begging on main roads is not only illegal but also poses safety risks for both the beggars and motorists. They urged motorists not to stop and give money in such situations, as it could lead to unsafe locations or heavy traffic. The Police Eye service is a platform for residents to report suspicious activities, which helps authorities monitor and take appropriate action against illegal activities, thereby strengthening community safety and security in the emirate.
