In a historic moment for India, Sarvesh Anil Kushare clinched the silver medal in the men's high jump event at the Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The 25-year-old athlete, originating from Devgaon in Nashik district, achieved this feat by clearing a height of 2.25 metres, securing the runner-up position. This victory marks the end of India's 56-year wait for a medal in the men's high jump category at the Asian Games.

Kushare's performance was consistent and steady throughout the final round of the event, with him clearing the heights of 2.10m, 2.14m, 2.18m, 2.22m, and ultimately 2.25m. However, he was unable to surpass the 2.28m mark in his three attempts, allowing Chinese Taipei's Fu Chao-Hsuan to claim the gold after clearing the same height with fewer attempts. South Korea's Woo Sanghyeok secured the bronze medal.

This achievement is particularly significant for India, as the nation's last medal in the men's high jump at the Asian Games was won by Bhim Singh in 1970 at the Bangkok Asian Games, when he secured the bronze. Prior to Kushare's performance, India had not won another medal in this event at the Asian Games since then.
