Arab League economic council commends Saudi program's role in Yemen development

The Arab League's economic council has lauded the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, highlighting its crucial role in bolstering the country's institutional and human resources. During the council's 118th regular ministerial session held in Cairo, the organization commended the program for its supervision and follow-up on the Industrial and Commercial Institute project in Aden governorate.

The council urged specialized Arab organizations and financial institutions to provide the necessary technical and operational support to the institute, aiming to enhance its role in training government and private sector personnel.

This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia's larger strategy to bolster Yemeni institutions and capacities, fostering stability, economic recovery, and sustainable development. The Industrial and Commercial Institute, funded by the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation and Yemen's Ministry of Industry and Trade, is overseen by the Saudi program.

The institute's mission is to improve the skills of ministry staff, local producers, and exporters through training, workshops, and technical assistance. Additionally, it aims to promote entrepreneurship and economic project creation, stimulating commercial activity and Yemeni exports.

The institute is set to offer tailored support services to micro, small, and medium enterprises, trade unions, and associations of exporters and producers. It will also serve as a reference for economic studies and consultancy, helping to prioritize and implement Yemen's industrial and commercial development strategy. The Saudi program has bolstered its impact through partnerships with numerous organizations, including the European Union, World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, ESCWA, UN-Habitat, AGFUND, and Alwaleed Philanthropies.

These collaborations have supported the integration of efforts and the exchange of expertise to advance Yemen's development.

Since its inception, the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen has carried out 300 development projects across eight sectors, benefiting millions of Yemenis. These projects have facilitated mobility, expanded educational opportunities, strengthened universities and technical institutes, improved healthcare, supported sustainable agriculture, empowered women and youth economically, and enhanced community participation.
