Anthropic CEO Amodei to dine with Trump at White House

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is scheduled to have a private dinner with President Donald Trump at the White House on Sunday evening. This one-on-one meeting will mark their first face-to-face encounter, according to a tech industry source. The invitation follows months of tension between the artificial intelligence startup and the Trump administration.

The dinner transpires two days after a federal appeals court upheld the Pentagon's classification of Anthropic as a "supply chain risk," prohibiting the US military from utilizing its models. This sanction followed Anthropic's refusal in February to permit its tools for developing fully autonomous weapons or conducting domestic mass surveillance.

Trump had previously criticized Amodei, accusing him of attempting to be "a perfect little angel" after the Anthropic CEO advocated for a pause in AI development. Notably, Amodei was absent from the state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, which took place on Thursday and featured AI industry leaders, including OpenAI's Sam Altman.

Despite widespread calls for a slowdown in AI development due to concerns over potential loss of control over the technology, the US government maintains that the sector's major players—OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta—cannot afford to halt their progress, fearing that China may overtake them.

When asked about the numerous security incidents caused by advanced AI models on Fox News Sunday, President Trump dismissed these concerns, stating, "I'm not worried about it." Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are set to meet with leading AI executives on Tuesday.
