8 dead in Thailand floods since mid-September — snakes, 2m croc spotted amid deluge

Since September 16, eight people have died in flooding across Thailand, according to the government. Five of the fatalities occurred in Sa Kaeo, two in Chanthaburi, and one in Saraburi, all eastern provinces. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported that over 500,000 households and 1.7 million people in 27 provinces have been affected by the flooding, excluding Bangkok.

The capital declared a city-wide disaster on Saturday after 48 hours of heavy rain caused canals to swell and roads to flood. While there have been no official reports of deaths in Bangkok, the DDPM stated that water levels have stabilized. Residents in eastern Bangkok, particularly in Bang Kapi, continue to navigate through thigh-high floodwaters.

Amidst the crisis, 2-meter crocodiles and various snakes have been spotted amidst the flooding, highlighting the impact of displaced wildlife on the situation. Schools have closed, and people have been advised to work from home, resulting in quieter streets and public transport networks.
