Yogi Adityanath targets Congress over SIR, says opposition harming democracy

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh has criticized the Congress and other opposition parties for their actions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Adityanath argued that these parties are endangering democracy by targeting constitutional institutions. He stated that the opposition's constant confusion and baseless accusations about the SIR process are irresponsible and harmful to democratic values.

Adityanath noted that the SIR exercise has been conducted multiple times in the past, including during Congress-led governments in 1952, 1957, 1961, 1965-66, and 2003, yet opposition parties are creating undue alarm over the current exercise. He accused the opposition of engaging in corrupt practices and undermining the country's internal and external security.

Adityanath also criticized the opposition for questioning the government's actions, such as the Balakot airstrike and the bravery of Indian soldiers, suggesting a lack of patriotism. He emphasized that the Election Commission has clarified the position and that all left-out voters have the right to fill out the form. The Supreme Court has upheld the Election Commission's decision on Form 6.

Despite this, Adityanath accused Congress and other opposition parties of attempting to weaken India's democracy, calling their actions shocking and surprising.
