Xi caps off US visit with plan to meet with Trump again in November

Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded his three-day state visit to Washington on Friday by announcing plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump again in November. During their final meeting at the White House, Trump accepted Xi's invitation for Xi to visit China in mid-November when the country hosts the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit in Shenzhen.

Xi thanked Trump and first lady Melania Trump for their hospitality, praising every detail of the visit, and said they would meet again by the end of the year for the Group of 20 summit in Miami. Trump expressed his happiness with the visit, noting that "Great things for both countries, and it's been very, very productive." The two leaders agreed to eight deliverables and understandings, which included building a relationship of strategic stability based on respect, fairness, and reciprocity, using the term "super intelligence" instead of artificial intelligence, setting up a bilateral communication channel for technology incidents, and ensuring Iran cannot develop nuclear weapons.

They also operationalized trade and investment mechanisms, agreed to favorable tariff treatment for $30 billion worth of goods, and committed to addressing supply chain shortages related to rare earths and other critical minerals. Shortly after leaving the United States, Trump highlighted the visit as a success for both countries on social media, indicating they would meet again in November in China and at the G20 in December.
