Anwar: Najib case does not change govt’s stance on corruption, those who plunder nation’s wealth must answer for it

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reiterated that the government adheres to the Federal Constitution and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decision in the case of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, according to the source f4925951-c48. Anwar clarified that this stance does not prevent him from offering opinions and guidance based on jurisprudence, the law, and the nation's welfare.

He emphasized that the government firmly stands against corruption and the act of misappropriating national wealth. Speaking at the 3 Generations Appreciation Dinner: Continuing the Legacy of Struggle, Anwar highlighted that the country cannot tolerate corruption and the plundering of national resources. He also cited cases involving Lembaga Tabung Haji, Felda, and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), stressing that those accused of stealing from the nation must face the consequences.

Najib, currently 73 years old, is serving a prison sentence at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, following his conviction in the RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd funds misappropriation case. The Sultan of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim, granted Najib a conditional pardon on September 18, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, provided he pays a RM50 million fine and meets prescribed conditions.

Other attendees at the event included Anwar's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan. The gathering welcomed more than 2,000 members of the Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement, the Malaysian Islamic Da'wah Association, and the National Muslim Students Association of Malaysia.
