Wetang’ula steps up attacks on Uhuru over 2022 election remarks

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has intensified his criticism of former President Uhuru Kenyatta over his recent assertion that the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga had won the 2022 presidential election. During a church service in Garsen Constituency, Wetang'ula questioned why Kenyatta transferred power to President William Ruto if he believed Odinga had won.

Kenyatta had previously declared Odinga the 2022 winner, despite the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Supreme Court declaring Ruto the official victor. Wetang'ula warned that ongoing disputes over the 2022 election could reignite political divisions and tensions ahead of the 2027 General Election. He cautioned Kenyatta to respect the Constitution and called for dialogue among political leaders to move Kenya forward.

Wetang'ula also criticized Kenyatta's decision to hand over power to Ruto at the inauguration ceremony, questioning the rationale behind it when the same IEBC declared Ruto the winner. The Speaker urged Kenyatta to promote unity and respect for the Constitution, emphasizing the importance of avoiding quarrels over past elections.
