Hull Kingston Rovers' celebrated coach Willie Peters reflects on his emotional farewell to Hull, as his family prepares to leave the East Yorkshire city. The 47-year-old Australian, who has transformed the rugby league club over four years, expresses his deep affection for Hull. "Hull gets a negative rap with people who aren't from here, they call it all sorts of names, but once you come and understand what the city is about, what the people are about and get an appreciation of what this city is truly about, you're going to miss that," he says.

Peters' tenure at Hull KR culminated in unprecedented success, including club history wins of the domestic treble and becoming World Champions. He fondly remembers living in Beverley, describing it as a beautiful town with good people. The coach enjoys simple pleasures, focusing on family, work, and cafes like Vanessa's Cafe, where he used to eat jacket potatoes.

Alongside trophies, Peters has cherished non-rugby moments, such as receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Hull and attending prestigious events like Wimbledon and Anfield. Moving his family from Sydney in 2022 proved rewarding, as his son Mason grew into a young man experiencing key years of growth. However, leaving Hull KR is emotional for Peters, who admits to moments of tears while driving with his wife. He emphasizes that Hull KR will always hold special memories for them.
