Watson leads UMass over Sacramento State 35-6; Minutemen are 4-0 for first time since 2007

William Watson III played a pivotal role in Massachusetts' 35-6 victory over Sacramento State. The Minutemen quarterback threw a touchdown pass and dashed for two additional scores. Watson also contributed seven rushing yards. The Mid-American Conference debut saw the Minutemen posting a perfect 4-0 record, a milestone not achieved since 2007.

Watson showcased his versatility, completing 11 of 16 passes for 101 yards and adding 72 yards on the ground. Early in the first quarter, Watson scored a touchdown on a 13-yard run. In the second quarter, he added a 32-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 14-3. Watson further extended the lead with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Max Dowling, putting the Minutemen up 21-6 at halftime.

With 7:30 left in the third quarter, Timmy Hinspeter intercepted a Jackson Sharmann pass and returned it 49 yards for a touchdown, expanding the cushion to 28-6. Kezion Dia-Johnson sealed the win with a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Sacramento State's quarterback, Sharman, completed 24 of 43 passes for 221 yards. The Minutemen await their next Mid-American Conference game against Bowling Green on October 10th.
