Indore’s National Lata Mangeshkar Award Celebrations Begin September 27; Shantanu Moitra To Be Honoured

Indore, Madhya Pradesh: The National Lata Mangeshkar Award 2026 celebrations commenced on Sunday at the Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium. Music director Shantanu Moitra will receive the prestigious award on Monday. NP Namdev, director of the Department of Culture, announced a musical evening named 'Amar Lata Hamari Lata...' (Immortal Lata, Our Lata...) on September 27, commencing at 7 pm.

Free entry will be granted to the audience. The award ceremony and evening are scheduled for Monday at 7 pm. Renowned music director Shantanu Moitra will be recognized for his exceptional contributions. The award, established in 1984 by the Madhya Pradesh government, is valued at Rs 5 lakh and includes a citation plaque. It alternates between acknowledging music composition and singing, acknowledging 42 eminent personalities thus far.

Last year's ceremony honored Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for music direction and Sonu Nigam for playback singing. The state government has a long-standing commitment to preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage. Lata Mangeshkar, the Nightingale of India and Bharat Ratna recipient, was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and her timeless songs continue to resonate with audiences.
