Waterlogging at Ganga Expressway toll booth; UPEIDA cites construction constraint

A 50-meter section of interchange connecting the Ganga Expressway to the old Kanpur road in Unnao became waterlogged after heavy rain, according to the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). The issue, attributed to a transmission line that prevented the affected area from being built at the required height, left the main carriageway unaffected while water accumulated across the carriageway, reportedly several feet deep in some spots.

Local residents even caught fish from the flooded section. UPEIDA is working with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) to find a permanent solution, which could involve shifting the transmission line or raising the height of the affected portion by about three meters to ensure adequate clearance. Temporary measures, including diverting traffic and using pumps to remove the water, are currently in place.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the situation on social media, suggesting the expressway be renamed "Ganga Express Waterway." The 594-km Ganga Expressway, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April, cost around Rs 36,000 crore.
