UiTM Holdings under MACC spotlight as RM42m solar project payment questioned

Pahang-based UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd is currently under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following allegations of financial mismanagement in 2023. According to Sinar Harian, MACC director-general Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman stated that the probe encompasses a variety of matters, most notably a RM42 million solar project in Gambang, Pahang. This payment is said to have been made for purposes beyond the project's scope and without the requisite approval from UiTM Holdings' board of directors.

Abd Halim clarified that the investigation is ongoing due to its complexity, which involves technical aspects and awaits further guidance from the prosecution. The probe is being carried out under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. Furthermore, MACC will scrutinize other related issues, including governance lapses as pointed out by the Prime Minister.

In response to these concerns, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for a thorough review of UiTM Holdings' governance and management structure. This directive follows worries regarding the company's financial setbacks.
