U.S. Avoids Disaster With Biggest Presidents Cup Comeback Ever

President Donald Trump visited the Presidents Cup on Sunday, as the U.S. team achieved the largest comeback in the 32-year history of the biennial team golf event. With standout performances from Cam Young, Justin Thomas, and Scottie Scheffler, the U.S. overcame a 10.5–7.5 deficit to secure an 11th consecutive team victory. The International team, comprising players from outside the U.S. and Europe, has won the competition just once in 1998, while the U.S. has claimed the title 14 times.

The U.S. now leads the overall competition 14–1–1, up from previously holding a 10–8 advantage in 2019. The event at Medinah Country Club, just outside Chicago, saw enthusiastic crowds, who often booed the International team and cheered for their American opponents. Despite occasional unruly behavior, the atmosphere remained more subdued than at the Ryder Cup held at Bethpage Black in New York the previous year.

Participants received a $250,000 stipend for their involvement, but no prize money was awarded. U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker acknowledged Trump's influence during a post-victory interview, crediting the President for bringing energy to the team. Trump's presence led to enhanced security measures at Medinah, including a TSA-style perimeter and fan requirements to be inside by 9:45 am.

Trump served as the honorary chairman of the Presidents Cup and spoke briefly before the final round, emphasizing the strong performance of the U.S. team.
