Two Naga civilians killed, two injured in gun attack in Manipur

Two Naga civilians lost their lives in a gun attack on Saturday afternoon in Kalenjang village, located near Taphou Kuki in Manipur's Senapati district. The victims, Rocky from Chowainu village and Kumar from Laii Shirafii village, both in Senapati district, were shot dead inside the residence of the village chief. Two others were injured in the incident.

The identities and condition of the injured persons have not been disclosed. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack. The village had been abandoned following an arson attack in July, as per the village chief, Lhingjahoi Hangshing. The Chief Minister of Manipur, Y Khemchand Singh, condemned the incident as a cowardly act of violence.

Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed concern over the rising number of murders this year, with over 60 civilians killed. The latest killings have heightened concerns among Naga civil society organizations about the security of Naga residents in the state.
