Take action on flooding, erosion, Soludo urges Anambra residents

Anambra State Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo recently highlighted the growing concerns of flooding and gully erosion during a commemoration of Nigeria's 66th independence anniversary. During the ceremony held at the Cathedral Church of St. Faith, Awka, Soludo called for collective action from the residents of Anambra to tackle the issues by taking personal responsibility.

He emphasized the recent unfortunate death of a six-year-old pupil, Success Ezenwafor, during a flooding incident, stressing that such tragedies could happen to anyone. Soludo noted that despite the state government's expenditure of billions of naira on the issue, there has been little progress. He urged citizens to contain water from their compounds, refrain from blocking drainage systems, plant trees, and clean the drainage, stating that everyone has a role to play in addressing the problem.

The Archbishop of the Niger and Bishop of Awka, Most Revd. Alexander Ibezim, also spoke on the occasion, emphasizing that true independence is about allowing people to determine their own future and urging citizens to speak well of the country and support its development.
