Take action on flooding, erosion, Soludo urges Anambra residents

Anambra State Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo has urged residents to take immediate action against flooding and gully erosion during his address at a commemoration service marking Nigeria's 66th independence anniversary. In his remarks, Soludo highlighted the tragic loss of a six-year-old pupil, Success Ezenwafor, who died recently in a flooding incident, emphasizing the necessity of personal responsibility in addressing environmental issues.

The governor lamented that despite the state government's expenditure of billions of naira, significant progress in tackling these problems has not been achieved. Soludo called for collective efforts, urging citizens to contain water runoff, avoid blocking drainage systems, plant trees, and maintain drainage systems. He prayed for the peaceful repose of Ezenwafor's soul and urged the public to use this tragedy as motivation to take responsibility for their surroundings.

Reflecting on the nation's progress since independence, Soludo noted improvements in education, infrastructure, and healthcare, but acknowledged that more work is needed. He described Nigeria as a glass half-full, urging citizens to stop lamenting and instead commit to making the country and the state better.
