Swara Bhasker: ‘I already act for a living, I cannot act in my political views’

Actor Swara Bhasker has been in the spotlight following her comments about the Ayodhya verdict, where she reached out to Muslim friends, including Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan, expressing her sympathy and disagreement with the decision. Veteran actor Puneet Issar criticized her for getting involved in such controversies, stating that actors should focus on their profession and not engage in political debates.

In an interview with SCREEN magazine, Swara responded to Puneet's criticism, asserting that actors are not forced to remain silent about their political views. She argued that she was merely sharing her personal thoughts with an interviewer, not seeking attention or personal gain. Swara also dismissed the idea that she intentionally creates controversy for fame, noting that she does not have a PR team or social media presence and that her comments are not generating income for her.

Swara defended her unabashed opinions, explaining that her fearless nature stems from her privileged upbringing in India, where she enjoys numerous advantages compared to those from less privileged backgrounds. She emphasized that her ability to speak her mind freely allows her to stay true to her political views, even if it means facing criticism and controversy. Swara believes that maintaining authenticity outside of her acting role is essential for her well-being and personal growth.
