SharpEmu’s latest release can run six tested PS5 games at 60 FPS, with 12 of 55 titles now reaching gameplay state, as developers improve shader translation and Vulkan support.

PS5 emulator successfully runs six titles at a playable 60 FPS

Developers working on SharpEmu, an open-source PS5 emulator, have managed to get six games running in real-time at 60 FPS. This achievement was recorded on September 25, 2024, with the emulator's latest public release, v0.0.4-release.2. These six playable games are Dreaming Sarah, Void Terrarium, New Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja, Tetris Forever, Hoa, and Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered.

However, while these titles run without technical issues, minor graphical or audio glitches may still be present. The other 12 games tested reached a playable state but did not perform as smoothly. SharpEmu, written in C#, supports Windows, Linux, and macOS, and utilizes Vulkan and MoltenVK for graphics API calls. The emulator's success is due to its ability to natively run PlayStation 5's CPU instructions, leveraging an AMD Zen 2 x86-64 architecture.

Despite the impressive 60 FPS accomplishment, SharpEmu is still in its infancy and struggles with more resource-intensive 3D titles. Currently, only six out of 55 tested games are ready for full gameplay.
