Police arrest two suspects in Anambra, recover pistol

In Nnewi, Anambra State, police officials apprehended two individuals suspected of possessing a six-round English-made pistol. The arrest occurred during a stop-and-search operation on Saturday, September 26, conducted by the Rapid Response Squad, Nnewi Sector, and Police Mobile Force 54. The suspects, identified as Ekwulugo Chiemierie Joseph, 33, and Enyiobi Geoffrey Somtochukwu, 29, were traveling on a Tiger 150 motorcycle without a registration number.

They were stopped and subjected to a search, during which the firearm was recovered. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the seizure and any potential connections to further criminal activity. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, emphasized the significance of maintaining police visibility and conducting well-coordinated stop-and-search operations as part of the command's intelligence-led and community-based policing strategy.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information about suspicious activities within their communities.
