Police arrest suspected fraudster, recover 25 ATM cards, others in Ogun

In the Ogun State Police Command, a 45-year-old man named Ameachi Anthony, also known as 'M', has been apprehended for allegedly orchestrating a fraud scheme worth N2.5 million, according to a statement released by the Command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi. This arrest, which occurred on September 22, 2026, was detailed in a statement signed by Babaseyi.

The police recovered a significant number of 25 ATM cards and various mobile phones from the suspect during the operation. Preliminary investigation has suggested that the fraudsters used utility bills and newly obtained SIM cards, facilitated through associates, to establish bank accounts which were then used for the fraudulent transactions.

The suspect and the recovered items have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) located in Eleweran for further investigation.

Further on the same day, there were additional arrests in connection with a suspected cult-related gathering. SWAT operatives apprehended Peter Olanrewaju, who is 34 years old. As part of these investigations, one individual named Adebayo Sodiq, aged 36, was also arrested. The police recovered a pump-action rifle and two locally manufactured pistols.

Olanrewaju and Sodiq are currently under further investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and to identify any other individuals linked to the case.

State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni commended the officers for their professionalism and vigilance, while reiterating the Command's commitment to proactive policing.
